- What is a Schengen visa?
A Schengen visa is the generic name of all the visas issue by the countries within the Schengen territory, it allows traveling to all the countries in this territory with the same visa.
- Where can I travel with a Schengen visa?
This visa allows you to travel within the Schengen territory which includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain,Sweden and Switzerland.
- I am a legal resident of the U.S. and a green card holder. Do I need a visa to go to Spain?
The green card is an American document that allows you to re-enter the U.S., but to travel to Spain is necessary to have a visa.
- How much is the visa fee?
The visa fees vary depending on your passport. The fees are updated the first day of every quarter. (see all the fees)
- Do I have to apply in person?
Yes, we will not accept any application by mail. The person interested in getting a visa must come to apply for it in person. However if there is an important reason why this person cannot come he/she can give a NOTARIZED authorization to a family member or close friend to apply in their behalf. They will have to present this letter and a valid form of ID to be allowed to apply for someone else. The Consulate will require written proof of the reason you did not apply in person.
- Where can I find the visa requirements online?

- How long does it take for the visa to be ready?
Short-stay visas might vary in their time of approval, however to secure a visa we ask that the applicants be here at least 3 weeks before their departure date. Resident visas may take longer and it depends on the specific type of residency.
- Your consulate is the most convenient. Can I apply for a visa there?
Every consulate has a jurisdiction. We can only take applications from people who are resident of our jurisdiction which is: the South of California, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona.
- Do I have to leave my passport in the Consulate?
Yes, you need to leave your passport at the Consulate unless you are a residence visa applicant.
- I have an e-ticket. Can I apply with a confirmation of my itinerary?
Yes, electronic reservations and itineraries are sufficient documentation to prove traveling. However the name of the person traveling and the reservation number must appear in the document.
- My spouse is a U.S. citizen, do I need a visa?
In the case that you are not in the list of countries except of visa, you need a visa to visit Spain even if your spouse is a US citizen.
- My spouse is a Spanish citizen, what do I need to apply for a visa to Spain?
You will be excepted from the following requirements:
- Insurance
- Hotel reservation
- Visa fee
- I am a U.S. citizen, I want to stay in Spain as a tourist for over 90 days, what type of visa do I need?
There is no tourist visa for more than 90 days (every 6 months).

- I am here in the U.S. with a tourist visa (B1-B2) can I apply for a visa to Spain?
No, we will not accept application from holders of a B1-B2 type visas in the U.S.
- What will happen If I decide to stay in Spain after the time I am allowed to stay in the area?
If you decide to go over the period of time that you are allowed to stay in Spain (or the EU) you will be there illegally. The consequences of such act depend upon Spanish (or EU) authorities.
- Can I leave Spain (or Schengen territory) after 90 days and re-entry to stay other 90 days?
No, you are allowed 90 days within a period of 6 months, reentering the country or the territory if you already completed your 90 days in this period will no give you the right to stay longer in the area.
- I want to work in Spain, what do I need?
In order to work in Spain it is required a work visa, which is only issue after a work permit has been approved by the Spanish authorities. This process is done in Spain by the company that wants to hired you there. To see the rest of the requirements for the work visa please visit this page
- Can I work with a student visa?
No, our student visas allows you to study but not to work during your stay in Spain
- Can I study with a work visa?
Yes, with a work visa you are allowed not just to work, but also to study if you wish.
- Can you mail my visa outside the US?
No, we will mail visas only inside the US territory and only in cases when the applicant cannot pick it up in person.
- Do I need to translate the Doctor’s certificate and the “Non-criminal record report” into Spanish?
Yes, these documents must be translated into Spanish by a professional translator.
- Do I need to have the fingeprints done. Is there any other option?
We required a "Non criminal record report" issued by The FBI, Department of Justice.
- Where do I get the “Apostille of the Hague” to legalize my documents?
For documents issued by a local or state authority, you get this done in the Secretary of State of your location. If the document has been issue by a federal authority you can get the Apostille from the U.S. Department.

Your Consulate requires a health/accident/travel insurance, but I already have one through my employer, can I use it for my visa application?
Usually, this type of insurances are HMOs or PPOs and employees must pay all the medical expenses and make a claim after their trip or pay deductibles. This type of insurance is not acceptable for a visa. You will have to buy an additional policy or a new one for the period of time you are going to be overseas and with the requirements stated in our instructions.
