A residence visa is required when planning to join a member of the family, already resident in Spain, and of whom the applicant is a dependant.
The visa must be applied for in person by previous appointment. Only applicants with permanent residency in the UK may apply at this Consulate General.
Applications must be made before moving to Spain (a residence permit cannot be obtained with a tourist visa once in Spain).
CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION:
- Four visa application forms fully completed and signed by the applicant at the bottom of the page.
- Four recent colour passport sized photographs.
- A full national passport with a minimum validity of 120 days and one full blank page to affix the visa.
- Photocopies of the whole passport, minus the blank pages.
- Photocopy of the page or pages of the passport showing the details of the applicant.
- A Certificado de Penales or a Police Criminal Records Certificate (original and photocopy) stating that the applicant does not have a criminal record.
This must be obtained from the country or countries where the applicant has been residing during the past 5 years.
In some cases legalisation and translation of the document by the relevant authorities may be required.
- A health certificate (original and photocopy) issued by a doctor, stating that the applicant does not suffer from any contagious or infectious diseases, mental disorders or drug addiction.
- (*) Passport of the member of the family already resident in Spain with a set of photocopies of the whole passport minus the blank pages, or photocopies of the said passport duly legalised before a notary public in Spain.
- (*) Renewed Spanish residence card (original and photocopy) of the member of the family already living in Spain or photocopy of the said residence card duly legalised before a notary public in Spain.
- (*) Fully comprehensive private medical insurance.
- Marriage and/or birth certificate, as the case may be (original and photocopy). In cases where documents are not from the EU the Apostille will be required together with a translation of the documents. (Photocopies will be required of all documents).
Applications for visas will be accepted only BY PREVIOUS APPOINTMENT. Please DO NOT BUY your travel tickets.
(*) Numbers 8, 9 and 10 will not be required if the member of the family already resident in Spain has applied before the local authority for family reunification. A copy of the application will be asked for instead.
Documents presented must be legalised according to the Hague Convention, and in some cases an official translation may be required.
In some cases additional documents may be required.
The visa application will be referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid for consideration.
A response on the decision may take several weeks.
The residence visa when granted is issued for 90 days with only one entry into the country.
Once the visa is affixed to the passport entry into Spain must take place within the dates shown on the visa and the applicant must register with the nearest Police Station within 15 days of arrival so to start the procedure to obtain a residence permit.
The applicant must not leave the country until the residence permit is granted.
Once the visa has been authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the applicant will be notified, and the visa will take 48 hours to be issued.
Please note that holders of this visa when in transit to Spain is still subject to immigration control at the point of entry by any Schengen member country.
