CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION - DOCUMENTS REQUIRED ON THE APPOINTMENT DATE 

Please note that you may only apply for a visa if you are resident in the United Kingdom and your residence permit is stamped in your passport or in separated card. Your individual circumstances in the UK will denote the documents that you must produce when you come to lodge your application. Please see the particular point below which is applicable to you.

The request for a visa must be lodged at the Spanish Consulate where the applicant is resident. If the applicant is not a permanent resident the application will have to be referred to the corresponding Spanish Embassy or Consulate and may be refused.

An appointment does not guarantee a visa. Visas are not issued on the day and may take up to 4 weeks depending on the passport.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS AND PHOTOCOPIES MUST BE PROVIDED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.

DEPENDANT OF EU/SPANISH NATIONAL

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Under Directive 2004/38/EC and according to “Real Decreto 240/2007, 16 February”, Family members of an EU/EEA National in possession of a valid UK Residence Card are not required of a visa to enter Spain when travelling with the EU/EEA National or joining him/her in Spain. Otherwise, a visa will be still required (“Real Decreto 1161/2009, 10th July 2009”). For spouses and/or children of Spanish Nationals the above condition applies providing that the marriage and/or birth is registered according with the Spanish Civil Register (original “Libro de Familia”).

Please note that the UK Residence Permit must state literally that the holder is a family member of an EU/EEA National, if not, a visa is required under the following conditions:

  • Passport or travel document valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from Spain and with at least two full blank pages to affix the visa.
  • One completed and signed visa application form. 
  • One recent passport colour photograph.
  • Original and photocopy of EU passport or National ID card of the EU National or Spanish National. 
  • UK residence permit.
  • Original and copy of “Libro de Familia” for dependants of Spanish Nationals. 
  • Original and copy of the marriage certificate (Non EU documents must be legalised according to the 1961 Hague convention).
  • Dependant children must have original and copy of Birth certificate (Non EU documents must be legalised according to the 1961 Hague convention).
  • Dependant ascendants (parents) must present the original birth certificate for the son/daughter proving the family link to the EEA/EU national (Non EU documents must be legalized according to the 1961 Hague Convention).
  • Original and copy of proof of residence (such as recent bank statements or household bills with the name of both parties).

LIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR A SCHENGEN AND TOURIST VISA

  1. Passport or travel document valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area with at least two blank pages to affix the visa.
  2. One completely filled and signed visa application form.
  3. One recent passport colour photograph.
  4. A UK residence permit valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area.
  5. Visa fee, when applicable.
  6. Travel Medical Insurance. This document shall cover the entire period of the intended stay, be valid for all Schengen States and cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be €30.000. If a bank covers the visa applicant while abroad, a letter from the bank stating that the above conditions are fulfilled must be provided.
  7. Recent, official and signed letter of employment on letter headed paper from the company in the UK addressed to the Spanish Consulate.
  8. Self employed: recent, official and signed letter from Accountant/ Bank manager/ solicitor / Local chamber of commerce stating self employment/business ownership in the UK. Letter from the UK tax authorities.
  9. Students: recent, official and signed letter from the UK school/college/ university on headed paper stating date of issue, name of the applicant, type of studies, number of lessons (hours) per week and confirming attendance record (a letter of enrolment is not acceptable).
  10. Last 3 months Bank Statements showing the applicant’s name and home address.
  11. Payslips for the last 3 months (optional).
  12. Proof of confirmed return ticket to the UK or to the country of final destination*.
  13. Accommodation: Hotel Bookings / Deeds of property in Spain / Letter of invitation from the host issued by the Police in Spain.
  14. Declaration of consent for minor children signed by both parents, or either parent with the legal custody, and copy of their passports and copy of Birth certificate.

BUSINESS VISA

  • Recent, official and signed letter of invitation on headed paper from the company in UK/Spain.

TRANSIT VISA

  • Guarantee of admission in the country of destination (visa, if required).

Airport transit:

  • Closed flight tickets* regarding the onward journey to the final country of destination.

Land transit (by car):

  • Original car documents and insurance papers. 
  • Closed flight tickets* (if the purpose of the transit is to take a flight in Spain).

HOUSE MAID OR NANNY/AU PAIR VISA REQUIREMENTS

  • Employment letter stating:
    - Start date of contract.
    - Terms of the contract. Must include: salary and bonuses, etc.
  • Current form P-60. Original and photocopy.
  • Bank statements for the last three months from the employee, showing entries:
    - The exact amount detailed on the P-60.
    - The employee's salary.
    - Sufficient balance to cover the cost during the whole stay in Spain.
  • For domestic personnel employed by diplomatic or consular staff accredited in the UK, applicants must be in possession of the corresponding residence for domestic staff employed by diplomatic staff.

* This Consulate General is not responsible for the expenses of the planned travel already paid by applicants and will not accept any claim for them in case of a visa refusal.

DEPENDING ON INDIVIDUAL CIRCUMSTANCES ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS MAY BE REQUIRED.
