Types of Visa

Requirements

Types of Visa

1. Short stay (aka Schengen visas). Up to 3 months out of every 6 months in the Schengen Space.

Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and BN(O) passport holders, valid for a minimum of 6 months, who wish to stay in Spain for tourism or business purposes for up to 3 months, do not need a visa. IMPORTANT! Before you travel to Spain, check the Entry Requirements to Spain at our website.

Holders of Hong Kong Document of Identity (HKDI) and Macau Travel Document need to apply for a visa.

Foreign nationals intending to enter Spanish territory must have the corresponding Schengen visa if the nature of their nationality means they are required to do so.

IMPORTANT! Being exempted from requesting a visa does not give you an automatic right to enter Spain. The entry into Spain has several requirements and the visa is just one of them. Please check the Entry Requirements to Spain here.

2. Long stay (aka National visas). More than 3 months out of every 6 months.

All foreigners who do not hold the nationality of a European Union member state, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, and who wish to remain in Spain more than 3 months of every 6 months, must in all cases apply for a long-term visa.
