The Consulate will provide all the information needed in order to register the death of a Citizen of Spain in the Consular Registry. We will also provide information about the procedures to transfer the mortal remains into Spain, if that is the family´s decision, the Consulate will not be responsible for any fees related to such transfer to Spain.
Transfer of ashes: Must bring to the Consulate:
- The Urn (non-metal)
- Cremation Certificate
- Death Certificate issued by the local authorities along with the passport and/or form of Identification.
- Data about the transfer to Spain (Airline Company, flight number, date)
Transfer of corpses: Must bring to the Consulate:
- Letter addressed to the General Consul seeking authorization for the transfer.
- Death Certificate issued by the local authorities.
- Embalming Certificate.
- Certificate of the Non-Existence of Contagious Diseases issued by the Department of Health, Permit to transfer the corpse and photocopy of the passport or identification.
- Data about the transfer to Spain (Airline Company, flight number, date)
The Consulate will issue a Certificate addressed to the Captain of the Aircraft to be passed on to the "Administrador de Aduanas" in Spain stating that all proper paperwork has been submited.
