Diplomatic School

The Diplomatic School, founded in 1942, is an educational institution within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, whose purposes include, among others, the training of candidates for the Diplomatic Corps, the preparation of officials for the Foreign Service and aspirants to international public service, the organization of courses and seminars for Spanish university post-graduate students and foreign diplomats on subjects dealing with international relations, and carrying out research programs in the field of international studies.



Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development  

Agencia Española para la Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo

The Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) was created in 1988 as the body responsible for implementing Spanish policy in the area of development cooperation. It is associated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation through the Department of State for International Cooperation. It is the technical organization responsible for the design, execution, and management of cooperation projects and programs, whether directly, using its own resources, or through collaborative arrangements (conventions and agreements) with other national and international entities and non-governmental organizations.



Cervantes Institute

Instituto CervantesThe Cervantes Institute is a public institution created in Spain in 1991 for the promotion and teaching of the Spanish language and the dissemination of Spanish and Spanish-American culture. Among its most important purposes and objectives are the organization of Spanish language courses, the administration of examinations for official certificates in Spanish as a Foreign Language, keeping teaching methods and ongoing education of Spanish teachers current, supporting the work of Hispanists, participating in programs for disseminating the Spanish language, and carrying out cultural awareness activities, in collaboration with Spanish and Spanish-American organizations as well as entities within the host countries.

 

Spanish Academy in Rome

The Spanish Academy in Rome is a public institution that has been connected, since its founding, with the Royal Academy of San Fernando of Madrid. It is governed by a board that operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, through the General Department of Cultural and Scientific Relations. It was founded in 1873 at the initiative of Emilio Castelar, a politician and man of letters, in order to address and channel the growing interest in Rome and Italy in Spanish artists. It moved to its present location in the ancient convent of San Pietro in Montorio in 1881, under the reign of Alphonse XIII, the director at that time being José Casado del Alisal, successor to the first director, the famous painter Eduardo Rosales.
