At Casa de la Villa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, together with the Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, attend the signature of the memorandum by which the city council assigns the use of Cañete Palace to the Sefarad-Israel Consortium for it to set up its headquarters there.
Casa Sefarad-Israel was created in 2007 to fulfil the commitment made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Autonomous Community of Madrid and Madrid City Council to create an institution for the purposes of: studying the cultural legacy of the Sephardim in greater depth, promoting greater knowledge of the community and Jewish organisations around the world among Spaniards and providing impetus for the development of Spain's relations and bonds of friendship with Israel.
