The Directorate General for Foreign Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation hereby issues the following communiqué:
The Spanish government wishes to express its solidarity with the government and people of Chile in light of the devastating earthquake that hit areas of the centre and south of the country last night, with numerous victims. Spain wishes to express its condolences to the families of the victims and to offer its sympathies and support in these difficult times.
The government of Spain states its willingness to provide technical and humanitarian support to the affected areas to the extent deemed necessary by the Chilean authorities.
